Norrkoping is taking a significant step towards enhancing cultural engagement in the community with a new strategic document. The document, titled "Cultural Direction – When the Stream Reaches All of Norrkoping," aims to connect culture with the entire city and involves cultural creators, non-profit actors, and residents. On June 11, the Culture and Leisure Committee will discuss the proposal, which will then proceed to the municipal executive board and be decided by the municipal council in August. The goal is to enable more residents to access and engage with culture. Annette Sjöö, chair of the Culture and Leisure Committee, emphasizes the importance of culture for societal development and democracy. The document is based on a comprehensive mapping of cultural resources and insights from over 250 individuals. To reach everyone, proposed measures include creating an accessibility structure and building inclusion chains. By lowering barriers and involving residents in cultural production, the municipality hopes to strengthen the cultural ecosystem in Norrkoping.
