Linkoping has been missing a club scene in the right size — big enough for the big artists, small enough to feel real. The answer to this problem may have been standing and smoking next to Skylten for over 60 years. This is a column. The opinions in the text are the author's own. On April 28, I would have published a column about how the Varmeverket KV1, which is located next to Skylten, could become an excellent cultural venue in Linkoping now that the Ostlänken is going to renovate the entire area around the current station. Shortly after 9:00 am on the same day, the government announced that the Ostlänks station would not be built. A blow for Linkoping and a blow for my column. I had had the idea since July last year, when the Director of Urban Development Alisa Basic told Corren about her vision for the area (Corren 7 July 2025). Take it as a lesson for young people — you should not procrastinate. Anyway, the column had to be put aside. But in the confusion, an earlier version still managed to get into the Saturday paper. For that, we apologize. But, the basic idea remains. Linkoping needs a larger cultural venue. When Lars Winnerbäck 2024 ended his massive summer tour by making two club appearances, he chose to play at Flygeln in Norrköping. It would not have worked in Linkoping. We simply do not have such a venue here. We scrutinize those in power, report on what's happening near you, and contribute to a strong local community.
